At first glance, it’s easy to identify these “treasures on earth” – money, the miscellaneous material wants that we lust after. (For me these would be gadgets, shoes, bags etc etc)

But what happens when you dig deeper into these “treasures on earth”?

One of the 10 commandments says that we are not to worship other gods, other than God. Again, at first glance, it’s easy for you to say that these other gods refer to other religions.

But again, dig deeper.

What are the things that you hold close to your heart?
What are the things that hinder you getting closer to God and vice versa?

Money? Fame? Branded luxury goods that you can’t live without?

How about stuff like your job, your studies, your grades, your family, your boyfriend or girlfriend, your relationship, your friends or even your ministry?

In essence, they aren’t ‘bad’ things right? Not stuff that are typically classified as “things of the world”.

And yet, these may be the very things that are robbing you of intimacy with God. Think about it – Are the blessings of God taking up so much of your time, thoughts and heart that there is no room left for Him?

Do you give God all that you have, or do you give the one who blessed you in the first place what you have leftover?

Don’t hold on so tightly to your blessings. We all know that God gives, and God takes away.. especially if they are robbing you away from Him because really… how else can He get your attention?

Be wise – give it to Him before He takes it away.
What could you lose? He will bless whatever you give Him for your best future ANYWAY.
