Hello, lovelies! This post is somewhat different from what I usually update (ie random whines and grouses about my life hahaha) and it’s definitely something new, which made me rather excited when I was first informed about it! Hehe.

Much thanks to the good people of 24seven who gave me this opportunity, I had the chance to review the Samsung Beat DJ M7600 for this past week! I was honestly pretty damn excited at the prospect of getting to review a new phone that’s just been launched in the market. Totally sparked off the closet geek in me, heh heh.

The Samsung Beat DJ is a shiny little device marketed as a nifty little media device, with its key feature – the Beat DJ.

Beat DJ is a program included and featured in this mobile that essentially gives you the power to be a DJ spinning records and scratching discs, like on a turntable. Sounds like pretty awesome stuff eh?

There is a playlist of Beat DJ tracks included in the phone, most of which feature an upbeat rhythm easily suited for ‘scratching’ on the phone.

The Beat DJ program is easy enough to figure out, and start scratching away on the tunes. You can also use any track that you put into the phone for scratching. I tried it out with a Worship song and rolled around laughing at how ridiculous it sounded with the ‘scratched’ sounds, hahaha!

You are able to record the musical creations you come up with, as was Samsung’s intention to enable you to create music with this device.

Dawnie tried out the Beat DJ feature when I met her last week.

She was skeptical at first, but this quickly turned into amusement as she discovered yet another feature – there are sound effect, or filters as it is called, that you can add onto your track while you mix the tunes and scratch the disc!

Personally, I think that the Beat DJ is a bold attempt by Samsung to bring something new to mobile phones. It is a novelty feature on the phone that could be fun when you’re with a bunch of friends creating a new track together. It could be my age, but I also felt that this feature is a bit too gimmicky for me on a mobile phone… but heyyyyy I’m young, I swear!

At first glance, I thought the phone’s design resembled a mini PSP, with its two curved ends. As per feedback from the people around me who saw the phone, some liked it and some didn’t.

I think the design is alright, but mostly I like it for it’s sleek size. See how fat my fingers look next to this sleek thing! The Samsung Beat DJ is almost completely a full touch screen phones, with just 3 buttons at the bottom of the device – the answer and hang up bottons, and a back button.

It features a 2.8″ touch screen, which makes it comfortable to watch videos on. The screen is also AMOLED, a fascinating feature for a screen which I first discovered on Pinkie’s MP3 player! This basically means that as long as you can see the screen, you are able to see what’s going on the phone from different angles – convenient for watching videos with a few friends because everyone will be able to see what’s going on!

Watching an episode of “Rules of Engagement” on the go

As with other Samsung phones, they haven’t disappointed with their screen’s resolution, clarity and sharpness. When I first accessed the menu, I suspect I let out a gasp because of the crisp colour that was displayed. Hahaha. I think it’s a decent device to watch videos on.

Aside from the chance to be your own DJ, the Samsung Beat DJ also has another prominent feature – Bang & Olufsen’s ICEpower. It is a technology that is energy efficient whilst amplifying good sound quality. You can read more about it here on Bang & Olufsen.

The speakers on this phone surprised me with its audio quality. They produced loud and crisp sounds, and impressed me because I think most mobile phones have average speakers at best.

The phone has a 3.2 megapixel camera on its back, with auto-focus and a host of other features such as smile recognition and face detection.

With its awesomely sharp screen, the camera was a total disappointment for me. It’s nothing new that I love photography and camwhoring (heh heh) so it was a letdown. The shutter lag is astounding to be totally honest. It resulted in half the photos that I took under various lighting conditions being blur or missing the subject totally because I’d already moved the phone thinking that the photo was already taken. I thought that the camera could have been a lot better to take advantage and to compliment the screen.

Below are some sample photos taken on the phone. They’ve only been resized, and were not edited in any other way.

    Dawnie and me!
This was taken in a room with bright white lights.

    Pam and myself!
This was taken in the same room as the above photo.

HEEHEE so cute, the poems!!! I burst out laughing when Dawn read it out to me hahaha!
This was taken in McDonald’s at night. The most decent shot I had out of the bunch of test shots I took, actually.

And that’s Pinkie playing “Flight Control” on my iPhone decked in hot pink. Actually, he’s also next to me playing the game over and over obsessively right now!! Pft.
This was taken indoors, with that standing lamp lit, as well as with the curtains drawn with sunlight pouring into the room. Erm.. I kinda forgot to test some shots outdoors in the sun. Sorry! I think it’d work better in bright sunlight though.

The Samsung Beat DJ has points that I both love and hate about it. I adore the resolution of the screen, and the speakers on it. Screen resolution is something important to me, and Samsung clearly didn’t disappoint with this handset. The speakers pleasantly surprised me when I turned them on, and I was rather impressed with it.

I also liked that you could control the intensity of the vibration of the phone – something that I don’t have on my iPhone hehe. I’m not sure if it’s a common feature in other Samsung phones, but kudos to them for thinking it up!

What I didn’t like about this particular handset was the less than average camera, the slight lag when navigating through the phone and also that it couldn’t sync on my Macbook!! *frowns*

While the Beat DJ program is a novelty feature and main selling point of this phone, I think that it is a tad too gimmicky for my liking but I suppose that could be argued that I don’t belong to the Beat DJ’s target audience. Shame, really. I do, however, think that the younger teens would have a field day with this fun feature, driving the people around them up the wall with the constant scratching of tunes everywhere they go! Hehehe.

All in all, I suppose the phone is alright if you are simply looking for something unique to have fun with, and not a device to organise your life. It is not something I would pick out and purchase, because I want a lot more than a novelty feature and good speakers on my handset. After all, this is the closet geek in me speaking heh heh.

I’m now in the train, headed to meet Dawnie for Riverfest at Clarke Quay! She wants to catch one of the performances there so I’m going along to just check out the whole Riverfest.

Despite staying in between the North South MRT line and NEL, I hardly ever take NEL. now that I’m in the train, I’m pleasantly reminded again that there’s actually 3G reception here when we’re underground, unlike on the SMRT lines.

Being out on public transport on a saturday is proving to be a little too much for me, though. the inconsideration of singaporeans never ceases to annoy me, pfttt!!

most unfortunately, I’m in a dress AND flip flops. sheesh, it’s horrid! I feel like one of those newscaster jokes where you’re dressed immaculately waist up, and horribly waist down! *shame faced*
I plead innocent, though! I’m in flip flops because of a stupid blister that was aggravated a bunch of times yesterday.

    flip flops are comfy!! =))

on a sidenote, don’t people TAKE A SHOWER before heading out in public?!??!! spare my nose and stomach, pleaaasseeee. =(

it should be mandatory for everyone to smell nice. pftt!! I likey nice smelling people! =)

on yet another sidenote, it just occurred to me that with the amount of retarded things I do when I’m out with my friends or pinkie, I could very well be recognised randomly by one of you! hahahahaha I must say that realisation felt quite incriminating. thank God it hasn’t happened yet because I don’t think I have THAT many readers =P

Oh and Liang Court is run by geniuses la??? put up huge posters at the MRT station but not have directions. pft!!!!!!! I WANT MY MEIDI-YA SPREEEEEEE!

    ok where’s Dawnie?!

Got up this morning to news that Pinkie is too sick to go out as planned and wanted to rest at home. I felt like heading out of the house today so I tried to find someone else who was free but everyone was busy! Pftt. So I headed next door and found my brother at home! YAYYY!

Also found Russell sleeping on his bed so I poked and squished Russell, which woke Joel up, muahaha. Plan accomplished! Asked him to head out for lunch with me if he was free so he got up. I hardly ever go out with my brother, cos we just don’t really hang out much. He’s going into NS in a couple of weeks though, and I’ll miss having him around a lot..

I’d planned to take him to the little ramen place I love behind Centrepoint, but when we got there (after braving the drizzle lol) it was closeddd! Damn, split shifts. Ohwell. We decided to head to Waraku (Jap food) at Starhub Centre cos it was just nearby and I had a mad craving for Japanese food.

Lunch turned out great, much to my delight and slight surprise! We both got this set which had sliced beef + egg on a hot plate/pot thingamajig. It came with rice and a mini bowl of hot udon or soba. It also came with a tiny side of potato salad which turned out to be one of my favourite things on the table. For 16 bucks, I thought it was rather worth the price, actually.

We also got a side of cold chasoba + zaru soba to share. Loveeeee!! Their soba set also came with a raw quail’s egg. We mixed it into the dipping sauce – is that what is supposed to happen? Hahaha. We just tried it, and it was lovely. It added a smoother texture to the sauce. Too bad I was fricking full by then.

I felt abit mad alternating between 3 staples with every mouthful, but damnnnn! It totally made me happy! Blogging about this is making me crave for the potato salad… Sob. I want more! Should head down to Meidi-ya soon. I loveeee Liang Court!!

Haven’t had dinner because I was so damn full from lunch + KOI cafe on the way home. Now I’m starving. Well done.

Oh, and I bought new shampoo and conditioner! YAYYY! Surely there is something wrong with me? I’m addicted to nice shampoo smells. I was waiting for the bus home and I was fighting off an urge to take the bottle, open it and INHALEEEEE.

Helloo!! I’m back from the sunny island of Tioman! Just like how Singapore is fricking sunny, so is Tioman. Only, it’s made more manageable with far less humidity levels and sea breeze. Oh, and lots and lots of ice cream!

Am too lazy to update about it, so this is just a quick update to let you know I am back, lest Tania complains once again about the lack of updates. HMPF. Oh ya, Tan.. when is the Hillsong Australia conference typically held? =P

On to geeky squeals – my lovely iPhone, Tweedledee, has been updated to 3.0! YAYNESS! I’m back to original software, baby! (And missing my games and theme…. and super easy swipe to switch between 2G and 3G networks… and the notifier icons I get at the taskbar…) But ohwell, I just felt it was time to switch back mainly because I am sick of my phone crashing and not being able to freely updating my Macbook’s OS updates without having first to check if it will affect my phone/Macbook.

Can I just say that I am positively thrilled that I am now able to go online via the internet tethering???? This basically means I can go online on my Macbook with my phone’s mobile broadband plan!!! Somewhere for my 50gb of data to go to now. HEHE. See, now don’t you regret listening to Singtel give you their promotional bullcrap about the “iPhone” data plans? Sheesh.

This rocks my socks for various reasons! One, I can go online ANYWHERE with my Macbook now, without fretting over the lousy Wireless@SG connections. I can use tethering via the USB cable (which is good because I can charge Tweedledee at the same time) or via bluetooth! I just tried both and they both work – another reason why this rocks! It is just, SO SIMPLE to get things to work with Apple. I think they’re geniuses not for the features they have (because c’mon, even I as an Apple fan would admit some are pretty damn late to launch) but because when they do launch these features, they. just. work. Plug, 2 clicks and I’m online! Woohoo!

The only drawback is when the crap 3G reception gets to me. But other than that… *happy beam*

I’d wanted to spend my entire day resting in bed, lounging in air-conditioned bliss curled up with one of the three new chick lit books I got when in Malaysia (thanks Pinkie!) but I ended up online the entire day, catching up on everything I’d missed over the past 4 days. Sheesh.

Alright, it’s off to look for some form of dinner now that I am done gushing (on my blog, anyway). This post was brought to you via bluetooth tethering. *happy sigh*

Pinkie and I have the oddest conversations. Not complaining obviously, because I hate it when things around me get boring and normal.

Last night when I got home from congre meeting, I wanted to talk so I dropped him a text asking him if he was still playing his game. He replied and told me he’d stopped with Gunbound (YEA I KNOW RIGHT? Hahahaha but okay, he’s abit unreasonably good at it) but was now playing Winning Eleven, soccer game on his PS3:

HAHAHA he’s mad, I know I know. Hee

I was supposed to go out with Dawnie today to do last minute shopping for some stuff I need for Tioman, as well as get some errands done but that didn’t work out because of my screwed up sleeping pattern. Ugh.. I fell asleep at 3am last night, which is some sort of achievement because my insomnia has been stopping me from sleeping before 6am for the past few weeks. I remember feeling very satisfied just as I was falling asleep!

Sleep was not to be. Somehow I woke up at 6am, and proceeded to stay awake for a couple of hours. Sighhh.. This sucks. Anyway, I fell back to sleep at 8 in the bloody morning, only to JUMP out of bed with a jolt at 1.44pm – I was supposed to meet Dawn at 12pm!!! Fortunately for me, she was running late after her haircut anyway, so we postponed everything til tomorrow.

Fell back to sleep and felt like shit because I kept waking up every hour until the sun was ermmm… not visible. WTH. Woke up feeling shitty so I dropped Pinkie a text.

My boyfriend thinks he is Batman. When we watch Big Bang Theory and dear Sheldon has some sort of Batman merchandise or other (Sheldon thinks he is Batman too!), Pinkie goes into a sulk, proclaiming that he is Batman. HAHA.

Hahaha. O yea, you know how I call him Pinkie? Yea well, he calls me Brownie. Long story, so I’ll skip that. When we were at McDonald’s yesterday, this brought about a flurry of shrieks and mad evil laughter:

Hahaha! Madness. OH OH, GARLIC CHILLI IS BACKKKKK! But it tastes different from last time, looks different too. Oh well. Beggars can’t be choosers I suppose. I’ve had an overdose of MCD in the past few days, so I shall refrain unless it’s brekkie – that’s a different story altogether.

In case you’re interested, here’s my unfinished painting, left to collect dust at Michelle’s because I don’t know when I’m headed down to complete it.. =/

The flower’s incomplete, the background’s incomplete (because I’m not happy with the way it is) and the leaves are complete only because I say so. HAHA.

You know what’s tragic?? I absolutely can’t find 2 of my bikini bottoms. I have 3 tops and 1 bottom, and the new ones from VS aren’t arriving until when I get back from Tioman. *SULK* I want another beach holiday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My parents are out and I’m left with sorting out my dinner. Should I have bak zhang (microwaving) or pasta (cooking)? Such dilemmas I face daily…

Point-form update for Tania my stupid online stalker friend who says I don’t update when my boyfriend is finally back in the same country as I am. *stabs*

    • When I started watching Hell’s Kitchen with my colleagues about a month or two back, I enjoyed it lots. I started telling Pinkie about it and he sounded like he wanted to watch it as well so I said I’d stop watching and wait for him to get back then start all over again.
    • That officially makes me an awesome girlfriend, please. HAHAHA
    • We started watching it again this week and it’s damn entertaining! I likey, heh heh. In addition to Sheldon from Big Bang Theory I’m absolutely loving the days when we sit around watching episode after episode, only to take breaks for food.
    • Stupid Melvyn the bleddy jiao bin and I take turns tempting and feeding each other’s temptation for food at ungodly hours in order to get the other as fat as one’s self. Of course, if I were as skinny as that stupid boy, I’d be quite pleased. Sheesh.
    • I absolutely HATE it when people get my food orders wrong. I know it happens because humans run kitchens, not robots, but it pisses me off to no end because chance are, by the time the food arrives I’m already too damn hungry. To find something wrong with the order upsets me greatly! =(
    • The craving for some beef and lamb is going to take over my mind!!!!
    • It took me exactly 16 minutes to get home from Bukit Batok today. The level at which I was experiencing motion sickness when I got out of the cab was nauseating. Not, however, as nauseating as having your cab driver fart whilst you are trapped in the small space of a taxi. WHY DO THESE THINGS HAPPEN TO ME?? I bet Pinkie laughed out loud when I texted him to tell him about this the other night.
    • I am insanely hungry right now. Time check: 430am. Not good. I am also really sleepy. But I’m so hungry. It’s half an hour into McDonald’s breakfast. THIS IS BAD NEWS, PEOPLE.
    • Pam, Dawn, Pinkie and I are headed off to Tioman on Monday. Despite random issues, I am still rather thrilled about this! Tioman! Island of snorkeling, cheap food, cheap holiday and everything happy. I love that it’s not too commercialised. Whee!
    • Pinkie shifted furniture about in his house while his mum is away in Tibet. She’s going to kill him when she gets back, especially since he took it upon himself to move one of the sofa pieces from the living room into his room so that he can play games in comfort. HAHAHA.
    • I called him earlier and his first words were, “I have a catastrophe on my hands. My cupboard won’t fit into my room.” HAHAHAHAHA I had a laughing fit at 3 in the morning! Silly bear! His cupboard had been sitting in the living room for a couple of days, until he suddenly decided to move it back in at 3am. God knows why.
    • I think I will go cook instant noodles now. Hello, tummy.

Victoria Secrets is having one of their countless sales.. again! I constantly get emails from them which I delete without reading because it’s too much of a temptation. Somehow, just before I clicked the delete button last night, I glanced at the subject and saw that they’re having their insane swim suit sale again!!! GAH!

There’s a further 30% off the already discounted 40-60% swim suits, and lasts til this Sunday. Oh, how I pine.

SHOULD I GET THIS?????? I like the back! Heehee. Quite like this colour too. It also comes in coral, black or white. White’s out so it’s any of the 3.

Also, anyone else want to order with me?? Hee hee. Wonder if I should get a tankini too….

So I can’t sleep, but I’m not too surprised for a variety of reasons amongst my whacked sleeping pattern.

It’s people like you who are precisely the reason why I’m hating myself for the things that eat me up inside. Take your effing self-righteous attitude elsewhere – I don’t welcome it in my life. I don’t need you to validate my existence, nor do I need you to pass careless judgment over my life when you are no where remotely near any position to. I don’t need to answer to you, neither should I have to justify myself. This all just serves to piss me off because for someone as self-righteous as you, you really should do some personal reflecting.

Aside from the other thoughts swimming around in my head, I also think I’m a shitty girlfriend. =(

God, please take charge… I don’t even know what to do to let you do that anymore. I just know I need You.

When Pinkie was still in London, he asked what shows I’d like to watch when he got back so that he could erm, source for them. We’d already covered HIMYM, Just Shoot Me, Dharma and Greg and Rules of Engagement last summer holidays.

I suggested The Big Bang Theory because I kept hearing that it was a funny sitcom about a bunch of geeky guys! What’s not to love, given my soft spot for geekiness?

So Pinkie went ahead to get Season 1 of The Big Bang Theory and then informed me a couple of days after that he watched a bit of the first episode and didn’t really like it but he’d watch it with me anyway if I decide that I like it.

We started watching it yesterday and I am immensely proud to discover that my silly boyfriend is a huge closet geek! *squeal* He’s always said he doesn’t want to be geeky cos he doesn’t like it, despite my pleas to perhaps just look the part? Hahahaha!

Let me explain how the discovery of his awesome geeky side came about! We were watching the first episode, and I was finding that I was enjoying it quite a bit. In the middle of some banter on screen about some physics or math theory, Pinkie suddenly hit the Pause button and proceeded to explain to me in detail what they were talking about! OHMYGOD. HAHAHA! Possibly one of the happiest moments of my year. Hahaha!!

We watched a bit more and after realising that a lot of what the characters in the show talk about is what actually interests him, he’s decided that he really does like the show quite abit! YAYNESS!

We’re about 5 episodes or so into the season and it’s much fun watching it with him because he constantly hits the Pause button to explain the theories that are being referred to in the show! I don’t even mind the show getting interrupted because it’s all quite interesting (and the only way I’d find out about these is to have someone patiently explain it to me).. and also because it’s a lot of fun watching him get excited while explaining them to me. Hahaha.

One unfortunate downside to this is that sometimes I just CANNOT understand the theories, and then he hits the Play button again and the female lead, Penny, doesn’t understand as well, much to Sheldon’s disgust. All these led to Pinkie laughing his head off, rendering the show unwatchable because it was paused for the duration of his laughing fit. Pfttt! I don’t think I’d enjoy watching The Big Bang Theory as much as I do with anyone else other than you. :]

Sheldon’s my favourite, by the way. He’s hilarious!!! Well, I’d go insane if he really was my friend in real life but that’s not the point. He’s so cute! :D

    hey you, happy anniversary.
thank you for being you, for being such an amazing boyfriend.
after everything, just know that i truly believe, feel and know that this will always be worth fighting for.
i am hardly so sure about things in life, but i know that i want this and i will not give up working at it.
i love you lots and lots, my 166cm plush toy. hahahaha!

    —–
Alright, I should be off to bed now. I’m incredibly nauseas, and I hope it goes away because I’m supposed to be playing badminton with Lee Teng and Brian tomorrow. And then there’s Leaders’ Meeting at night as well. O dear. Silly nausea has been around pretty much the entire day.. :(
    Damn PMS.

You are, for the lack of a better word, utterly and completely amazing.

Thank you for understanding, for holding me while I cried, for just letting me feel safe and loved. Thank you for believing in me, and for letting me know that. Thank you for not giving up on me even when I feel like giving up on myself. Thank you for being here with me, for listening, for being completely non-judgmental with regards to so many areas of my life. Thank you for wanting me to be happy, and for being there every step of the way. Thank you for words exchanged, for embraces that speak volumes, and ultimately for making me feel incredibly loved, safe and secure.

I honestly can’t wait for what awaits us in the future, cos I know you’ll be there with me.
