soap dispenser…

Seeing lavender bushes in bloom was a gorgeous sight in Northampton (not so much in London cos the lavender there were all dull purples!)

Even more gorgeous was the smell the plant left on your hand if you plucked one and just held it. I was blown away by how wonderful it smelt – like the lavender soap you get in departmental stores, only 1000000x nicer!

My granduncle plucked a bunch from the garden outside his apartment to put into a cloth pouch to help him sleep at night! I wish I had that right now.. Pretty sure it’d help me go to bed smiling

So cute, right?! A traffic light for horses! Hee hee. I didn’t spot one during my few days there though.. very sad, cos I love horses. I think they’re really majestic and pretty. Heh.

Small things like this, you’ll never see in a city. I totally loved being in the country. Hee.

indifference…

Whilst walking along the River Thames, I saw Big Ben for the first time. But what intrigued me that evening wasn’t the prominent famous tourist sight, but rather what was happening along the river.

Throngs of teenagers hanging out, laughing and looking happy. A couple approaching each other with a big grin and a hug. A guy playing the saxophone, adding to the mood along the river.

It was a really nice, pleasant walk with Pinkie and Malcolm, after a hearty dinner of awesome food at Anchor and Hope.

I wonder if Londoners feel indifferent towards their tourist attractions, despite them attracting so many people all year round. I wonder if they feel the way I feel towards my own country and our sorry excuses for tourist attractions. Hahaha.

Mmm, I’m glad I captured a scene that involves Big Ben, rather than just Big Ben on its own.

desperate pleas…

There was a corkboard full of prayer requests at the church (I can’t remember which) and I stood there for awhile, just reading them.

Some of them made me smile, some of them made my heart ache but I kept going back to this particular one because it felt so desperate and at the same time, hopeful and full of love.

Sometimes we don’t realise what we truly have, especially the people around us. So cliche, but so true. Who have you be taking for granted?

4am walks…

Before I even got to London, I already knew that getting used to the sun rising at 4am and setting at 9pm would make my brain want to explode! It’s just one of those ridiculous things in life that make my brain want to explode from not being able to comprehend it, and at the same time makes Pinkie laugh his head off at the uncomfortable and confused look on my face.

Within the first week of being in London, we happened to stay up late one night watching shows and I suddenly looked out the window and this sight greeted me at around 3.45am. It was quite breathtaking, for about 3 seconds – I started squealing in excitement after that. Haha!

I got out my LX3 and got a few shots in, when Pinkie suddenly asked if I’d like to go for a walk! Much to my delight, of course, because he’s not much of a spontaneous crazy person like I am. Hee hee.

We put on jackets and sped out of the house after that. The streets were empty, the weather was cool and it was a whole different experience watching the sun rise over London, and seeing the ones who head home late, and the ones who rose early.

Out of the whole 6 weeks in UK, that night/morning is still one of my favourites

hello sir…

My brother commissioned as an officer from OCS on Saturday, and I attended the parade with my parents. It was pretty cool, and it felt like a mini NDP. HAHA.

I’m so proud of my brother! He’s all grown up now, and was more apparent to me (and I think my parents) when we saw him in the full uniform!

(Never thought I was the sort of girl who loves uniforms, but OMG. Quiteeee nice ah.. HAHAHA)

I know it’s been a tough past year for him, and I’m glad he made it through! Hehe.

It was insane trying to take photos at the parade because at the time when they were all running around snapping shots with all their friends, the sun was setting and the light was nuts. I don’t have an external flash so I tried to last as long as I could without using the damned external flash.

Times like this made me appreciate RAW, because OMG it will save your ass. Haha!

I pushed my trip back so that I could attend his commissioning parade, and I’m glad I was there; it really did look like it meant a lot to him so yea..

And with that, I’m off for my longest trip ever. It still feels unreal, and I’m not quite sure what to expect, except that I get to hug Pinkie! HAHA.

By the time this gets posted, I’m probably at the airport, checking in and hoping about in anticipation. Heehee.

He was one of the 4 kids we got to know whilst on a photowalk at Queenstown, but I unfortunately didn’t catch his name.

He’s 11 years old, and is a little ball of cheeky energy. He’d run and scream, obviously a cheerful and outgoing boy, and yet he was exceedingly shy when you paid him a little bit more attention, especially if you were a girl. So cute!

I like this photo because it captures a quiet moment with him, happy to sit and <s>eat</s> gobble his stick of ice cream.

I think practically everyone looks adorable eating ice cream! Heehee.

good morning…

Mmmm.. coffee. So many addicts surround me.
And yet, I suspect that more than half of those coffee addicts are actually addicted to Starbucks or similar. I don’t like coffee much (although I do love the smell of coffee beans) but I like the images that are associated with coffee.

Even more so, I like the images conjured with the likes of these coffee cups, commonly used in kopitiams and coffee shops – the much less fancier coffee that our parents are more acquainted with rather than that green lifestyle brand.

These nondescript coffee cups – they come with a thin metal spoon that’s easily bent with one hand, a saucer of half-boiled eggs, the whirring of the ceiling fan, the plastic chairs, the chatter of other families in the kopitiam, and the sounds of the other hawkers cooking up food that cannot be compared to expensive restaurants.

secret lives…

Shot through a gap in the mesh that separated pedestrians from the construction site at Marina Bay Sands, I tried to catch a glimpse into a moment of their lives as they went about it, unaware that some psychotic random girl was standing on the pavement above them sneaking peeks.

I’d walked through the Helix Bridge before reaching the construction site, and I found tons more interesting sights there than at the huge metal monstrosity that’s meant to be an attraction to Singaporeans and tourists alike. Maybe it’s because the workers behind what is promoted are always hidden, always at the back of everyone’s minds but never in focus.

As I walked further along the pavement next to the construction site and peeking into all the gaps, a few of them waved and cheerfully posed for me while I took snapshots of them! They totally cheered me up in the midst of a bad day, really.
